This ELL program focuses on the English skills necessary for success in college, as well as learning about the American university system and incorporates taking weekend excursions in the Wisconsin area.
Partnering With Our Community: Thank you to the Shorewood Community for your support of our annual Buzz Cuts for Cancer Fundraiser. So far over $10,000 has been raised for the MACC Fund this year! This year 54 students (half girls!) participated in the Buzz Cut for Cancer. Additionally, students with longer hair donated their initial cuts to Locks For Love. Check out these fun photos from the event: http://twitpic.com/1ni1w0 and http://twitpic.com/1ngibp.
This year the SHS Student Council chose the Walker’s Point Youth & Family Center as the non-profit that the students would like to partner with for the school year. As the year concludes, the student council is planning three final fundraisers for the organization: 1) Beard-Off, 2) Student vs Teacher Basketball Game, and 2) Moonlight Dance.
Thank you to everyone that has been involved throughout the year in the many great community service and volunteering activities associated with Shorewood High School!
The 2010 Culinary Team consisting of SHS students: Jeremy Carter, Peter Emmiti, Evan Clinkenbeard, and Kara Holton placed 6th out of 27 teams at the Wisconsin Restaurant Expo at the Midwest Express Center. The event showcases future professionals from across the state as they prepare a three course meal in one hour. The teams of four are judged on knife skills, team work, sanitation, menu presentation, and taste. This is the best finish for Shorewood in 4 years of competition. Jeremy, Peter and Evan came to tonight’s meeting to share their delicious dessert with the school board and also gave an interesting presentation on how their menu was inspired by local food choices. The students also thanked their advisors, Mary Kay Anderson and Bohdan Nedilsky.
The Solo & Ensemble contest results are very impressive, 60% of our entries advance to the State Festival. The Shorewood High School Band and SIS & SHS Choir and Orchestra entered 86 events in the Wisconsin School Music Association District Solo & Ensemble Festival. Of the 86 entries, 53 received a 1-star rating, Kudos to our very talented students and our equally talented teachers: Karen Frink, Jason Clark, and Sal Terrasi.

After a long day of heated competition Shorewood's Varsity Red and Junior Varsity Grey teams met in the fourth bout of the day for an all-Shorewood championship round! In the end the Varsity Red team took first by a single point over the JV Grey team. Varsity automatically advances to the state tournament, while the JV team waits to hear if they will receive one of four statewide wild card berths to join Varsity in Madison on the weekend of March 13th.
